How to reach Iraq and travel between its provinces

Practical information for visitors, from landing at Baghdad International Airport to using shared taxis and buses between cities.

Baghdad International Airport

The airport lies west of central Baghdad. The simplest option for visitors is a pre-arranged private pickup or an official taxi from the airport service points. Keep your hotel address and host's number available.

Allow extra time for checkpoints and confirm your pickup before landing.

Baghdad's main garages

Al-Alawi and Al-Nahda are among Baghdad's best-known intercity transport hubs. Destinations and vehicle stands can change, so ask your hotel or host to confirm the correct garage for your city on the day of travel.

Travel during daylight, arrive early, and carry small cash for your ticket.

Intercity transport
